Bespoke Lift System for Food Tray Handling

The Brief

A food production company required a new handling system to improve the movement of dollies and food trays while reducing manual handling risks for operators.

The existing handling method required operators to manually remove trays, creating a risk of strain injuries and increasing the chance of product spills.

The customer required two new lift systems that would automatically present trays to operators at a safe working height. The solution needed to improve operator safety, reduce manual handling and support a smoother production process.

The Solution

Unitech Engineering designed, manufactured and installed two bespoke lift systems tailored to the customer’s requirements.

Each lift was integrated with a sensor-controlled arrangement that automatically raised dollies and food trays towards the operator as trays were removed. This allowed products to remain at an ergonomic working height throughout the process.

The system was designed so operators could safely remove individual trays without having to reach, bend or stretch unnecessarily.

Throughout the project, Unitech Engineering worked closely with the customer to understand how the equipment would be used in day-to-day production and to develop a solution that improved both safety and efficiency.

The Result

The new lift systems are now fully operational and providing a safer way for operators to handle food trays and dollies.

By automatically presenting trays at the correct working height, the system has reduced manual handling risks and helped minimise the possibility of stock or produce being spilled during operation.
