The Brief
Unitech Engineering was awarded a contract to design, manufacture and install wash and changing room equipment for a large food production facility owned by Morrisons Manufacturing in Worsley, Greater Manchester.
The client required a practical and hygienic changing room layout that would create a clear barrier between low care and high care areas within the facility.
The project also aimed to improve organisation within the changing areas while increasing storage capacity for staff footwear and PPE equipment.
A key requirement was to increase overall wellington boot storage capacity by 33% while providing a mix of secure and non-secure storage options.
The installation also needed to be completed within a very short timescale and fitted around active shift patterns at the site.
The Solution
Unitech Engineering worked closely with the client to design and manufacture a range of bespoke equipment for changing areas tailored to the available space and hygiene requirements of the facility.
The project included the supply and installation of:
- Floor-mounted welly racks
- Secure and non-secure boot storage
- Multipurpose PPE dispensers
- Garment lockers
- Garment collectors
- Apron roll dispensers
- Bespoke step-over shoe storage barrier benches
- Full-length polished mirrors
Particular attention was given to the bespoke step-over barrier benches, which were designed to fit precisely between existing wall kerbs and vertical support posts within the changing area.
The layout created a more organised process for staff moving between low care and high care zones while helping improve hygiene standards across the facility.
Despite the tight installation window, Unitech Engineering carefully planned the works around staff shift changes to minimise disruption to the client’s operations.
The Result
The completed installation provided Morrisons Manufacturing with a more organised, hygienic and higher-capacity changing room facility.
The new layout improved the separation between low care and high care areas while making better use of the available space within the changing rooms.
The additional storage capacity and improved equipment layout helped create a more practical system for staff changing procedures and PPE storage.
Despite the challenges of the short project timescale and restricted installation access, the client was highly impressed with both the finished result and the service provided by Unitech Engineering.
Following completion of the project, the client placed an additional order for a further changing room installation at the site.
